Within industry, pipeline is called to collection of assembled pipes to transfer fluids, e.g liquid and gases, or even solid between two locations. In general, the fabrication methods fall into two principal categories: welded and seamless. Depending upon the H2S content in the carrier materials, the sour or sweet service is defined. From the perspective of establishment location, the pipeline system is divided to offshore and onshore. The common standards used in the pipeline industry are API 5L and DNV-OS-F101.
Oil/gas pipeline as widely used are usually made from steel so that except of the seamless pipes, other pipes are usually produced by welding in two economically ways, LSAW and LHFW. In the LSAW cases, the pipe was produced by three ways: UOE, JCO and 3roll bending. Series of mechanical and chemical examinations shall be conducted at all stages of manufacture to ensure the good quality.
